In my lifetime we’ve had Pet Rocks, Pop Rocks and Fruity Pebbles, but never Power Rocks – – – until now.

The PowerRocks Stone 3 7800 mAh ($99.99) is a dual USB battery – – – they call it a “Powerbank” – – – that can charge two mobile devices simultaneously including tablets, cameras and smartphones.

The device has two USB output ports and micro and mini USB input ports that are used to charge it, so you can use either the micro USB cable that comes with the 7800 or another that may be lying around the house or office.

The charging cable that comes with the 7800 needs either a USB plug adapter, which is pretty common with today’s collection of mobile devices, or can be plugged directly into an outlet or computer that has a USB port. The PowerRocks logo flashes when it is charging and, obviously, stops flashing went it is fully charged.

We were able to charge an Apple 4/S and an Amazon Kindle Fire four or five times using the PowerRock device without having to replenish the battery, which is pretty good by today’s standards. The company’s website boasts that it can charge devices five or six times, so it pretty much performed as the company claims.

One of the best things about the 7800 is its size. Weighing in at a mere eight ounces and being pretty small (three inches squared) in stature, it takes up very little real estate in a briefcase, computer bag or purse.

The Stone 3 is also built to last a bit longer than most of the other batteries on the market today. A majority are rated at 6000 mAh indicating it will take about 6000 milliamp hours for the battery to die. The Stone 3 is rated at 7800 mAh. You do the math.

If you have any, most, or all of the devices enumerated in the picture (Photo 1), you usually have “low bat” problems. You have issues on recharging your device/s especially when on the plane or in some places where there are no charging stations. (PHOTO 1)
Having the said devices, I was always interested in portable chargers that kept my gadgets usable and my stored documents, photo, and video libraries accessible and available at all times. Power was always a key factor.
During the International CES 2013 in Las Vegas, Powerocks – known as creators of fashionable power banks, launched some mobile power products that sought to resolve the issues raised above.
Samples of the products were not available for review at the time so I could not test and write about them. But recently, Karen Thomas of the Thomas Public Relations – The #1 Award-Winning Public Relations Agency for Consumer Electronics, on behalf of Powerocks sent me an email stating that sample products were now available and was checking my interest in reviewing them.
Having shown some interest on my part, Karen immediately arranged for the delivery of the products. I received a couple of the products last week and have been using and testing them since then.
STONE 3
The Stone 3 has been quite useful to me – for my IPAD and my iPhones. It is lightweight, portable and small enough that I can hold it in the palm of my hand. It could easily fit in a briefcase, backpack and a purse. It is very powerful and a suitable companion when going on vacation, to work, to the gym, and anywhere you go on a daily basis.
Containing a rechargeable 7800Ah lithium ion battery, it is strong enough to charge my iPhone and iPAD simultaneously. It has a dual USB output allowing the charging of two devices at the same time. It is compatible with Apple products and other universal Micro USB charging ports. It also uses clean and reusable power.

Magic is also small (in fact, smaller) but quite powerful. I used it for charging my Kindle and my Android. It is rechargeable, very portable and of course, lightweight. It has a large capacity (6000mAh) and has a built-in USB and Micro USB cables.
Like the Stone 3, it is also compatible with Apple products, cell phones, smartphones, and other digital devices such as Bluetooth headsets, cameras, GPS, tablets, and more depending on device charge requirements. It is compact and with its size you can put it in your pocket, your purse, briefcase, backpack and hold it in your hand. It is very convenient to have it with you when traveling. It charges your tablet, eBook Reader, or other mobile devices safely and quickly. This is one battery that would not let you miss a call, or lose power in a meeting.

The GoSmart stylus is an unusual but well-designed stylus with a target tip that is Teflon coated to protect your tablet screen but the unique open design tip is where the GoSmart sets itself apart.

The GoSmart stylus for both the 200 and 300 series are uniquely designed stylus that include an aluminum body with or without magnets to attach to your tablet or other metal surfaces but the tip is what really makes these different. The GoSmart stylus have a unique metal tip that is Teflon coated to protect your screen and is a circle and crosshair design for easily seeing where the exact tip rests on your tablet.
The crosshair design means you see exactly where the tip of your stylus is at any moment instead of those big fat foam rubber tips that are not as precise for typing and other uses such as drawing and image editing. The tip is on a spring that inserts into the front of the stylus body for an easily replaceable tip that is also available from GoSmart for about $7 while the 200 and 300 series stylus cost about $24 without magnets and $25 with magnets.
The 200 series GoSmart stylus have a plain round body with a plastic colored cap while the 300 series is a tapered body with a rocket fin rubber cap that is also available in a small variety of colors. The caps come in blue, white, red and black while the aluminum body of both series have a nicely textured body for a smooth but comfortable grip on your stylus while using it.
The embedded magnets on the two stylus I received for review are handy for connecting to the side magnets on the iPad tablets to hold the pen or to stick them to steel surfaces like the side of a computer case. I can keep my stylus in handy reach at my desk on the side of the case while the 200 series has the clip on the cap for easy use to clip the stylus on a cover or a pocket.
The 300 series is more of a cute design but if you’re not worried about needing a clip the rocket design is a fun way to approach a stylus but both stylus work equally as well which is fantastic. The tip with its open design allows you to see more of your screen and ensure you are precise when using the stylus which works extremely well for all uses but especially for image editing and drawing.
The Teflon coating ensures you don’t scratch your screen but the GoSmart website does advise using a screen protector to prevent fine scratches which is a good idea to protect your investment. I had no problems using a variety of drawing, sketch and image editing programs like the new Adobe Photoshop Touch tablet image editing program as the stylus worked smoothly but precision is where the main difference can be seen.
Seeing exactly where the tip of the stylus is touching the screen makes image editing and drawing a real ease on your tablet using the precise GoSmart stylus tip design which is easily half the size as traditional foam rubber tips. I highly recommend the GoSmart stylus for precise touch screen use while the 200 or 300 series style is more a personal choice for a professional or a more fun style.

GoSmart Stylus Series 200 and 300

GoSmart Stylus
The GoSmart Stylus is one of the best see-though stylus designs I have seen yet. The GoSmart stylus comes in two different styles–a pen style (Series 200) and a rocket shape (Series 300). Both styles feature a small stainless steel cross-hair tip attached with a stiff spring which allows the tip to flex to any angle.
The surface of the metal tip is coated with Teflon so it glides easily on both bare screens and screen protectors. I used the GoSmart stylus on a matte screen protector and it did not scratch the screen, although when painting long strokes it made a squeaky, scraping noise which I found a bit annoying. This was only an issue while painting and drawing, and may not be an issue with other kinds of screen protector films. There was minimal noise when taking notes and performing other movements with the stylus.

The GoSmart stylus has four very small but strong rare-earth magnets embedded in the pen body (two per side) which allows it to stick to the magnets in the iPad and the Smart Cover. I thought the protective caps that come with each stylus would prevent the magnets from attaching securely to the iPad, but they don’t interfere at all. The rocket-shaped Series 300 stylus seems to hold on a little better than the pen-shaped Series 200 design, perhaps because the rocket cap is a soft silicone and the pen cap is a hard plastic.

Both GoSmart designs are about 5 1/2 inches in length, and are made of solid aluminum with a matte outer texture that feels nice in the hand. Before I held the two designs, I thought I would prefer the simpler pen-shaped design, but I found the rocket shape felt better in use. Both caps prevent the stylus from rolling, but the cap for the Series 300 (rocket) allows you to stand it on end. The caps for both styles can be put on the back of the pen handle when it’s in use, so the caps won’t get lost. The body of the stylus is a metallic gray, and the caps are available in four color options–red, blue, black, and white.

The price of the GoSmart stylus is reasonable at $24.95, and you can buy replacement tips for $6, which is good because the tip looks like it could get mangled pretty easily if you’re not careful with it.

Despite the unpleasant noise I experienced when painting with this stylus, I really enjoyed using it. It provides more screen visibility than any other stylus I have used, making it very precise. For note-taking I was able write very small–clearly and with confidence. It’s not the first stylus I’d grab for artistic work, but it’s the best I’ve used for fine detail work. It performs very well for note-taking and general use.

If you’re looking for a stylus primarily for artistic endeavors, you might want the GoSmart for detail work alongside something else like the Nomad Brush, but for all-around performance and excellent precision, this stylus is a winner.
